FOLKLORE DYNAMICS
“A language is a dialect with an army and a flag”.
With this formula, first the socio-linguist Weinreich then Quirk, described the influence ofa country’s socio-political situation over small communities. Similarly, Folklore Dynamicswith a research on Italian dialects (metaphors for values that seem to be vanishing intoday’s society), raises the voices of the choreographers in protest against political power.Instinct, humility, passion and hard work all converge in a country’s folklore wheredifferent identities create a strong sense of collectiveness. Five performers square up to adominant voice that aims instead at approval and unchallenged consensus, remindingthem of what it means to have no chance at opposition. But these identities persevere. The choreography describes their sincere expressions and emotions, their astute communication codes, and emphasizes their anti-conformist political intent.
